THE PLANT STAND IS CURRENTLY IN HIBERNATION!

Every year, we shut down the plant stand for the winter because we don’t have enough space for all the plants indoors throughout the cold weather. We re-start the plant stand every year in April around the last frost.

Bear Dance Plant Exchange

The Bear Dance Plant Exchange is a free plant swap stand located at 3205 Roanoke Street in Christiansburg. If you have neglected/unwanted plants or cuttings, bring them here so that they may find new homes! Share what you’ve donated/traded with your friends using the hashtag: #beardanceplantexchange.

Guidelines

  1. TAKE A PLANT, LEAF A PLANT:
Make trades that are approximately equal value. (Ex: Don't bring a cutting and take a big plant.) Only plants on the stand OR with yellow tags are part of the exchange.

  2. LABEL IT!
What is it? How do I care for it? (Labels are provided.)

  3. PLEASE BRING:
Happy, self-sufficient plants, saplings, cuttings, planters, soil. (Self-sufficient means contributions should be living in a medium or container in which they can survive/thrive for some time.)

  4. PLEASE DO NOT BRING:
Seeds, invasive species, trees, pests, diseases.

frequently asked questions (FAQ)

  • Which plants are part of the exchange?
Only plants on the stand OR with yellow tags are part of the exchange. (The other outdoor/indoor plants, plants with green tags, are either personal property or property of the business. We may be open to trading those too — but please ask first!)

  • What are the hours of the stand?
Dawn to dusk or daylight hours. (Any plants kept inside will obviously only be accessible when the store is open.)

  • Can plants be purchased?
No, we feel that’s not in the spirit of the stand. However, there will be an opportunity to obtain plaints in exchange for money at the silent auction at the end of the season in the fall. All proceeds are donated to a local non-profit.

  • Can plants be held for me?
No, unfortunately we don’t have enough space or brainpower to hold particular items for you.
